It is often asserted that the higher the page rank is, the better its chances of being shown at the top of the results page. This is absolutely true. The actual PR is never displayed on the Google toolbar. The toolbar PR may be the same or different from the actual page rank. In essence, therefore, you should not make the Google toolbar page rank rating your basis in determining your site’s position in Google SERPs. Always keep in mind that the Google toolbar page rank rating is only there to give you and your visitors an idea about your actual page rank rating. In actuality, though, a page with a higher toolbar page rank usually receives more visitors. In effect then, a high Google toolbar page rank rating may be indicative of more web search engine traffic and is certainly indicative of higher Google SERP positions.

There are a number of issues that may affect your web site’s page rank. The most important factor that may affect your site’s page rank rating is your choice of link partners. Mind you, do not look merely at the toolbar PR when looking for the best linking partners. Remember that the toolbar pagerank may not truly reflect a web site’s actual page rank and your linking partners may therefore not be displayed in a high enough position in Google SERPs. Since you’ll never know the actual Google page rank of the sites you’re considering to be your link partners, analyze the site’s pages and content to check if they are relevant to your content and your keywords.
