Affiliate Marketing and Google Adsense

Affiliate marketing can be defined by the agreement between a merchant and an affiliate website. An affiliate website agrees to post advertisements on its pages that are actually links to the merchant site or selling page. The merchant agrees to give the affiliate a certain compensation for posting a link on its websites.

Clicks versus Commission

There are different types of agreements when it comes to the type of compensation that a certain site receives from the merchant. It could be by commission or by pay-per-click. Commission-based payment is preferred by the merchant since they will only pay the affiliate when a sale has been closed. The pay-per-click method is preferred by the affiliate since they get paid for every click garnered from the link regardless if a sale has been closed or not.

Aside from the affiliate and the merchant Google serves as the middleman in this scheme. Advertisers and merchant submits their ads to Google with an agreement that Google that these ads will be posted on search engine results pages and other websites. On the other hand Google extends the opportunity to webmasters in the form of Google Adsense. By applying to Google Adsense, websites become affiliates that advertise merchant products and services.

Google Adsense has advantages that could not be attained while using the traditional affiliate marketing system. Advertisers benefit from Google Adsense by taking advantage of a wider-reaching advertising arm. Aside from this, Google posts merchant ads on sites that are related to the merchant’s product. If a merchant is selling candies, Google post its Ad on sites taking about candies. This means that merchants has quality traffic to introduce and sell their products to.

On the other hand affiliates and web publishers benefit from the scheme by taking advantage of the pay-per-click scheme.
