Google Adsense and 404 error pages is ok

Posted by | April 18, 2006 | Uncategorized

I thought as everybody else that Google Adsense does not allow ads on a 404 error page. Then i saw an add on a Thai web with a Adsense banner and some links. I sent an email to Google abuse and got no response. After 1 month i asked them once more why this still had Adsense ads on it. I got this email back from them

“Hi xxxx

Yes, ads on 404 pages are fine.

Sincerely,

xxxx
The Google AdSense Team”

I was very confused because in the Adsense Rules it says error pages are not allowed.

In short

(v) display any Ad(s), Link(s), or Referral Button(s) on any error page, on any registration or “thank you” page (e.g., a page that thanks a user after he/she has registered with the applicable Web site), on any chat page, in any email, or on any Web page or any Web site that contains any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content;

I talked this over with member from Digital Point Forum http://forums.digitalpoint.com/index.php?referrerid=10546

I also send another email to Google Adsense team to really make sure i was 100 % correct because some of the members in Digital Point Forum had got different answers from Google Adsense.

Hi

Thanks for the clarification. Yes, ads on those pages should be fine.
